Mikumi National Park is compared to other National Parks and Game Reserves in South Tanzania as relatively small (3,230 sq km), with the nickname “Small Serengeti.”
The park is famous for its great variety of animals and is home to four of the Big Five (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard – rhino not present).
You will also find animals rarely seen in other parks such as:
- Sable Antelope
- African Hunting Dog
- Blue Wildebeest
- Lichtenstein’s Hartebeest
Only 5 km from the entrance gate, you will find the Hippo Pools, where hippos and many water birds can be seen.
The park also offers beautiful landscapes with scenic plains and baobab trees, creating amazing views during game drives.
Only a 45-minute flight from Zanzibar using a 30-seater, twin-engine Embraer aircraft brings you directly to Mikumi airstrip where your safari vehicle will be waiting.

Zanzibar – Itinerary
Early Morning – Hotel Pickup & Flight
- 05:00 – 06:00 AM: Pickup from your hotel in Zanzibar (Nungwi, Kendwa, Paje, Jambiani, Stone Town, etc.)
- Transfer to Zanzibar Airport (ZNZ)
- 07:00 AM (approx): Domestic flight to Mikumi National Park (about 1 hour)
Arrival in Mikumi & Start Safari
- 08:00 AM: Arrival at Mikumi Airstrip
- Meet your professional safari guide
- Immediate start of game drive in Mikumi National Park
